In not giving too much away, the site will eventually be known as the no.1 resource site on the internet for affiliate marketers and online marketers worldwide.

The Power of The Domain Name

When I first started out in the big wide world of internet marketing I had absolutely no idea just how powerful a domain name could really be. Then it hit me, Google simply fell in love with domain names that actually had a real link to what the webpage was all about. |
As I always tell people who ask me what is the first step to online success, the answer is to understand what your webiste is really trying to sell and then complete a list on all the keywords that are associated with that product or service. From those keywords you will eventually find your domain name.
For my website I simply decided that I would try and capture the online marketers who didn’t want to be scammed. Therefore I found a domain name with marketing and scamfree included in it. With marketingscamfree.com taken I made a decision to add one hyphen in between marketing and scamfree. ideally I would have liked to have www.marketingscamfree.com, but this was the next best domain name available.
The next step was to start on my linking campaigns and also create a landing page for my site (and extremely important part of the exercise) with a keyword ratio of between 3-5%. Although this has become less important over the past 12-18 months with Google, it still carries some weight with being ranked with Google.
Once my linking campaign had been up and running I noticed that I was ranked no.1 and no.2 on Google for the search : marketing scam free. This was for both my Blog and my index page. Interesting to see that my index page was ranked ahead of my blog (see below), as many times a blog will rank higher (e.g updated content etc..).
As I had been told so many times by so many experts, the power of the domain name will eventually lead you to success online. Never underestimate your keyword research, and never ever rush into bying a domain that you think looks good but simply doesn’t have any releveance to your website whatsoever.

As with most debates about affiliate marketing, there are always two sides of the story. There’s one side that says that it is impossible to make a profit from being an affiliate marketer, and then there’s the other side suggesting that the only reason that affiliate marketers fail is that too many people are after a quick way of making money online.
As an affiliate marketer you have to know what constitutes success. For some it is making $100 a day (profit), while others expect to make over $1,000 a day in profits. The biggest problem is that when you start out as an affiliate marketer you expect to make $100+ each day from day one. When sales don’t magically appear in the first few weeks you start to panic and many just simply give up. It is the affiliate marketer that thinks outside the box that really succeeds.
With so many affiliates selling so many different products, it becomes difficult to stand out from the crowd. What selling techniques will actually work in 2008? How do I know that my pay-per-click advertising campaign wil actually work? The answer is simple (and again this is where success is driven from), test, test and test again. Too many people don’t believe in split testing because it takes too much time to maintain, when in fact testing will not only save you time but also $1,000’s in business costs.
A common theme with PPC advertising is that it is a waste of time and money. People are paying too much money per click and they are being wiped from the table. But if you’re smart you wil know that if your advertisement is leading a prospective client to a landing page that is relevant to the ad, then the price of the click will decrease. I know some of my friends don’t pay anything over 0.10c a click and they are making a fortune.
Therefore if you can keep costs to a mimimum in your advertising campaigns, then why can’t you use a PPC advertising campaign to link in with sellling products as an affiliate? The answer is - there is absolutely no reason why you can’t make money from selling other people’s products. Some affiliate marketers are scared of spending money on advertising when in fact it can be the difference between survival and losing out all together. What if I told you that $1,000 could generate $3,000 in profits? What if I told you that $100 could generate $1,000 in online profits? This is what is happening each and every day for som many affiliate marketers all around the world. It is the rate of return, not just the advertising dollar in isolation.
As an example why does Rosalind Gardner (she makes over $500k a year selling other people’s products) still advertising her Super Affiliate book on Google? Because she is making MONEY by doing it. I would imagine that she is now paying very little for her clicks, as her landing page (sales page for her book) is completely relevant to her advertisment. Ask Rosalind if she thinks Affiliate marketing is dying. I think her answer would be a simple NO!
There is no doubt that it is becoming more difficult to obtain financial freedom online, but for many it is more than just a dream. A successful affiliate marketer will simply find a way to be efficient, and most importantly understand the benefits of both a quality website(s) and a well researched advertising campaign. It is my belief that if you are prepared to research properly (and test, test and test again) you will succeed. It’s the people who are after quick money that will be the ones that don’t succeed!

Watch Out For The Fake Guru!

When it comes down to it, what actually constitutes a Marketing Guru? To be honest there is not one simple rule for knowing if you’re actually speaking with a Guru or simply a born again sales specialist. |
When I first started out in Affiliate marketing I was always searching for the ultimate Online Marketing "Guru", who would show me the way to making millions online. The problem was that everybody claimed to be a "Guru", and before I knew it I couldn’t tell the difference between a marketing specialist (i.e "Guru") and a good sales person.
Therefore these days I prefer to place marketers into the following categories :
- Online Marketing specialists (General)
- Specific Search Engine Marketing specialists
- Search Engine Optimisation specialists
- List Building Marketing specialists
- Experienced Online Marketers (over 5 years experience)
- Young Marketing Specialists (under the age of 25)
- Affiliate Marketers (know how to sell online products)
- "Fake" Marketers (tell you they have made $1m when in fact they have made just over $1,000 in the last month).
In my mind there is no such thing as a "Guru", but there are online marketers with more experience than others and who have proven records of success. These people would include Derek Gehl, The Wealthy Affiliate Boys (Kyle & Carson) and Rosalind Gardner. These online marketers have proven success behind them, and continue to show other online affiliate marketers that making money online is a reality.
There are too many so called marketing "gurus" these days who are simply selling you manuals that you can download from Google, or E-Books that have been re-written from 3 years ago. The real marketing "gurus" are teaching you how to build a successful online business. They are the ones telling you that there are no shortcuts to success (e.g Google Adwords - test, test and test again). When I hear these words I am confident that I’m learning from a real marketing specialist, because I know that not every bright idea I have is going to work straight away.
There are always going to be efficient ways of making money online. The simple fact is that too many people expect to make money through developing one squeeze page for one affiliate product. When no one visits the site they become disillusioned, and more likely than not they will simple give up.
When figures suggest that only 5% of all online marketers will actually make a living being online, then I say that the other 95% of marketers don’t have the time to succeed. learn from the best and the profits will be the reward of all the hard times. Simply learn to understand what your customers want, and you will see that success can be a reality.
